But during the summer, it’s hot, and nothing sounds better than cereal with cold milk. Like most, I have my favorite store bought cereal, but I got to thinking that it would be cool to try and make my own. A little less expensive but a little more work , I know. But hey, I’ve got time these days so why not? Plus, by making your own, you avoid consuming many additives, preservatives and loads of sugar used in manufactured cereals.
This cereal is jam packed with nutrients from oats, flax, wheat germ, nuts, seeds and dried fruit. Think of it as a granola-muesli fusion.
1.5 cups rolled oats
3 TBS ground flax
3 TBS wheat germ
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
3 TBS sunflower seeds
2 TBS cinnamon
4-6 TBS honey
1/3 cup mixed dried fruit (I used raisins and apricots)
2 TBS hemp seed
– Preheat oven to 300.
– Combine all ingredients in bowl and mix well.
– Spread onto foil lined and sprayed baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, careful not to burn.
– Mix in fruit and hemp seeds, let cool.
– Top with fresh fruit, milk and chow down.
