Having sufficient protein in the morning can help with mental acuity throughout the day as well as chase away that mid-morning hunger strike by keeping our blood sugar properly regulated. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein, providing about 10-12 grams of protein per 1/2 cup serving.


Sprinkled with a little ground flax, wheat germ and cinnamon, this nutrient packed breakfast will get your morning off to a productive start.

Morning Cottage Bowl

1 cup fat free cottage cheese, small curd

2 tsp cinnamon

1 TBS ground flax seed

2 TBS wheat germ

1 cup blueberries

1/2 cup strawberries, chopped

Sprinkle of mixed sunflower seeds and pepitas

  • Sprinkle the cinnamon, flax and wheat germ over the cottage cheese and mix in.

  • Throw on the fruit and nuts.

  • Add a little honey if you like it sweeter.

Serves 1 – Calories: 489  Protein: 29g  Carbohydrates: 46g  Fiber: 12g  Total Fat: 11g  Saturated Fat: 1g



Of course you can make this your own by adding different fruits and nuts. Get creative with the combinations. And most of all, enjoy it.
